NF, Inc., in collaboration with Children’s
National Medical Center, conducts Camp New Friends, a 7-day overnight
camp for children and teens with NF.
The 2009 camp will be held July
12-18. Children 7 through 17 years of age,
with NF1 or NF2, are encouraged to apply as campers. Those 18 or older
may apply as Counselors or as Counselors-in-Training.
Camp New Friends has recently moved to Massanetta Springs,
Virginia. The new site is near Harrisonburg in the foothills of the Blue
Ridge Mountains. The facility offers air-conditioned cabins, a spring-fed
Olympic-sized
pool, a lake,
and lots of buildings and space for activities. A bus will be available
to transport children from MD, and Angel Flight will provide air transportation
for those who are outside the area.
Also new this year is a pre-employment program for transitional youth. For further
information, email scushwei@cnmc.org, or call 202-476-5142.
To be eligible for scholarships and/or free transportation,
campers must register by May 31st.
